I would like to enroll for World Poverty and Human Rights, question is, is it a full undergraduate program?
I read but I am not sure if 950 UDS is for a complete semester, please help me clarify. Thanks

I am interested in applying for some online classes at Extension school, how do I start? I would like to learn more about the Biological Sciences.
Also one more question, my daughter is a high school graduate, can she take some online classes and get her credits transferred?

I have obtained a B.A. in Leadership and Ethics from online using Outlook Express, and now I am taking some course work through WebCt. My question is; does Harvard online offer a full MBA or any Masters’ program in full?

I have looked throughout the college website, but I cannot find a full Masters program.

I am so happy to see that people are finally accepting online degrees. I have received my BA degree from an online school and I had to write more research papers than my friends who attended in-person schools.

Hey hey! I’m looking into distance learning at Harvard myself. As an Armed Forces member working in DL is a big part of our Air Force education and training through CBT’s. I am looking to transfer to Harvard from Saint Leo.

Carlos,

Each of the degree programs at HES if different with respect to residency requirements.

For instance, the ALB program now requires that 16 semester hours are earned in courses that are offered in person rather than via distance ed. This wasn’t always true.

The ALM in IT requires that at least one semester is spent in residency. In practice, this means that one or two courses are completed while a student is attending during the summer.

Most of the other programs (ALM/Liberal Arts, ALM/Management, etc.) require that you take 5 or 6 courses (basically half of your courses) that are only offered on campus.

In practice, this doesn’t mean that you have to physically MOVE from where you are. You just have to be close enough to get to classes and to on-campus resources to make the whole thing work.

Plenty of students commute from NYC, New Hampshire, or Rhode Island to complete the program.

Of course, if you live far away you’re going to have a tougher time. Plane fares and travel are only going to get more expensive. My suggestion is to investigate the summer semesters to see if the courses you need will be offered. Those sessions only last 8 weeks and the time goes by fast.

I was looking into the ALM and I was hoping that someone could explain the best way of meeting the residency requirement as stated below. The way it sounds to me is that a two semester residency is the minimum requirement. Your input will be greatly appreciated.

“No more than five distance education courses may be counted toward the degree. Students are expected to spend at least two semesters in residence at Harvard Extension School or Harvard Summer School.”

thank you for such a quick response. I have seen in the media some scrutiny of online courses in general, which, I have found largely to be unfounded. In addition, however, some critcism has surfaced as the Extension degree says the aforementioned term in Latin and may not be taken as seriously.
Yes, I am very interested in seeing how I do in a real Harvard course! I have a graduate level understanding of many topics (as an undergraduate) through my own study efforts and through running a tutoring business. I would like to put that self concept and knowledge to the test in the face of a top notch education which not everyone is capable of doing.
I plan on taking a couple of courses in the near future and then after I get a feel for it, I will apply to a full degree granting program.
In the meantime I am accumulating college credits in my curent college program and anticipate the Distance Learning experience through Harvard Extension.

Probably the best reason to consider Harvard Extension is the opportunity to experience at a distance actual Harvard classes as taught on campus. I’ve taken several courses which are actually taped versions of classes taught on campus to regular College and GSAS students.

I every case, the grading standards were identical compared to the on-campus population. If you’ve ever wondered how you’d do in an actual Harvard class, this is a great way to find out.

I am currently investigating Harvards’ Distance Learning program. Since I reside in California, I would have to begin with online courses exclusively and then banch out to on campus offerings.
I am at this time, attending an online University program which does encourage great interaction between students in discussion forum, however, I am maintaining a 4.0 GPA by being a dedicated and independent student.
I guess my question would be, besides the Ivy League name of Harvard, (sonething to consider in and of itself, nonetheless) what are the advantages of an Harvard education specifically, predominately online?
Of course, employability is a factor, but there is only so far and complex one can discuss any topic.
